Bargains Ahead!

Everybody is talking about the crashing domain market! The categories of names hit hardest by the present downturn are of the speculative variety: LLLL.com and anti-premium LLL.com. Investors who are going more speculative into the premium LLLL.net and NNNNN.com may not have as much to worry about because these names can be had still for registration fee if you know how to catch tasters’ drops.

The LLLL.com names I paid in excess of $70 for in January and February are now only fetching $30-40, so I’m not worrying about getting premium LLLL.net names for registration fee. Needless to say, this is the time for domainers to seek revenue elsewhere outside the flipping (pun intended) market and wait out this dip in the market…

If the minimum wholesale price of any LLL.com does dive to the $5000 level, I might be tempted to buy one. Bargains Ahead! Maybe…

This is a great domain because it’s very targeted and *that* means more conversions (crossing fingers). If you go there, you’ll see a simple script running called McJiffy. What McJiffy does is query eBay with specific keywords for the home page, in this case “window magnets”, and presents a gallery view of results of items at eBay.

Each link to an item is actually an affiliate link, so whatever the user does over on eBay, you’ll also get a cut. McJiffy is free, unlike the common eBay script BANS. For some discussion on McJiffy, head on over to Digital Point.

For now WindowMagnets.com looks like all the other McJiffy sites, which isn’t terrible, but there’s always room for improvement. The script also works well because the keywords in the domain actually return relevant hits over at eBay, making the home page look pretty good.

I’ve got another domain I tried this on, CheapBestSellers.com, but the results weren’t that good because, I think, the keywords were too general…

Free Logo Generators

Sometime you just need a quick and dirty logo for a domain you’ve just purchased. Here a list of sites that don’t suck for making logos. OK, there is only one in the list… like I said, these sites don’t suck, many do. Some create a too-generic Web 2.0 logo and others have a very difficult to use user-interface. Well, if you’ve got some suggestions, post them here!

OK. Just kidding. I am a little jealous of those who DO have life projects. I want one too! Seems like my life project is to search for a life project. Maybe one day I’ll hit it…

I DO have, however, some domains that are calling me to the e-commerce side of development: DungeonGames,com and WesternBoutique,com. We’re talking role-playing and cowgirls here!

I have a LOT of GEO domains though that are calling for some kind of co-branding program. Most travel affiliate programs expect a certain # of conversion per month, all except IAN.com, which offers instant approval…

Snapnames Offers Upgraded “Download” Lists

This just in from Snapnames: “New & Improved Daily Auction List Downloads”. For all of you who automate the downloading and parsing of the dropping domains in 5 days list, this is a heads up. There is a different URL for the “classic” download page.

The improved download page includes lists broken down by GEO names, by registrar, by top categories, and other criteria. Not sure how this will help sift through the massive dropping and expiring lists. If you’ve already written custom tools for parsing the big lists, then I doubt these new lists will be of any help…

Just kidding… or am I?. Read over at 901am about the launch of SingleDad.com a new resource for, drum-roll, single dads. A superb generic name, but what about SingleDads,com? The phrase “single dads” has twice the wordtracker score. So what’s at SingleDads,com? A parked page… and a not very optimized one at that.

As if Newport Beach couldn’t get any richer, “Diamond International” is likely seeing a boost in traffic and PPC income. Way to go!

NNNNN.com, LLLL.net Smack Down!

I’ve started a poll over a Namepros giving people a chance to voice their opinion on which category of domains will be the better performing one in one year’s time.

I’m invested in both and of course hope they both are going at 2x reg fee soon. Currently, I can sell NNNNN.com names faster than random letter premium LLLL.net, but only at a few dollars above registration fee. To get a sense of domain liquidity head over to 4letternoob.com. As time goes on, I hope more types of domains will fall into the “liquid” category. As the Internet expands, I don’t see any reason why short domain investors have anything to worry about despite the present dip in the economy… x fingers!
